Serving the Triad (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem)
and surrounding areas including Jamestown and Burlington
Fauna has a 20-year
background in dance and
live performance and 10 years
of teaching experience. She founded SoulFlower Studios, the first belly dance studio in Greensboro, and co-founded Studio 318 World Dance Oasis.
Fauna was the Artistic Director of LunaSea Dance Theatre and currently directs Chimeric Bliss, a dance ensemble that blends theatre, experimental belly dance and fire into their performances. She also has a student troupe, Seraphim, who dances in a more traditional style, but still with Fauna's unique choreographic imprint. Fauna especially enjoys performing to live music with the Opa! Band and The Faux Pharoahs.
Fauna's training in belly dance began in her home state of California. Her degree, Anthropology of Expressive Culture, focuses on the ethnographic study of dance and music from around the world. Prior to discovering belly dance, Fauna studied and performed jazz and hip hop; English and Irish dance. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher.
As an active dancer and teacher in Greensboro and surrounding communities for more than six years, Fauna has taught master classes at UNCG, A&T University and Elon University. Her local performances include the Center City Park grand opening event, the Solstice Festival, Tribal Carnival and A Night at the Moulin Rouge with Zoe Jakes and Awake the White and Win'try Queen at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro. Most recently, she wrapped Illuminating and Transcending the Shadow, and original theatrical production written by Crystal Bright. Fauna provided choreographic direction and played three roles.
Fauna was also the winner of Yes! Weekly's 2010 "Best Belly Dancing" award for the Triad.
